Web Design and SEO for Independent Medical Practices
Hi, I’m Josh. I design and build websites with SEO in them from the start, and I look after them for years. My clients are independent practices that compete with corporate groups, and I help them win.

“Josh Miller is a true talent with website development, design, and knowledge on maximizing SEO content. My new website design and content was delivered on schedule and with the latest style. Over 50% of my new patient visits were referred from the web. I can not say that was the case with my previous website designed by a ‘plug and post’ company.”
Nancy Fazekas Grubb, MD · Optimal Health Institute of Ohio
Read the case study →“The results speak for themselves. Since we began working together, our new patient volume has doubled, and approximately half of our patients now come through online marketing. Josh has played a major role in that growth, helping us consistently outperform local competitors in online patient acquisition, including practices much larger than ours.”
Dr. Thomas Shane · Ophthalmologist & Founder, Shane Retina

Independent practices can win online.
Corporate groups and hospital systems have marketing departments and big budgets. Compared to them, an independent practice is the underdog. Well, I’ve rooted for the underdog my whole life, and now I’m in their corner. An independent practice has advantages of its own: doctors who own it, a place in its community, and care that patients notice. My job is to make sure patients see all of that online, before they ever call.
The websites I build show how good a practice is. The SEO built into them brings the right patients to the practice from Google, the map and AI answers. And years later, I’m still the one they email, so the doctors can leave the website to me and focus on their patients.
Venice Retina, an independent practice with one office, first on the Google map at every point I check for “retina specialist”.
Services
A website works best when its parts are designed together.
I plan the structure, write the words, design the pages, build the site and do the SEO myself, so each part is made to fit the others. The person who builds your website is the person who looks after it. When a practice opens a new office, the page, the map listing and the schema go up together, by someone who already knows where everything is.

Seven independent practices in seven different situations. Each one shows who the practice is, what I built for it, and what happened next.

Dermatology · Lakewood Ranch
Arsenault Dermatology
The practice is one of the best-regarded independent dermatology groups on Florida’s Gulf Coast, with more than 12,000 patient reviews averaging 4.9 stars. I’ve looked after its site since 2020, and as the practice has added offices, the site has gained a page for each one, a Mohs section and several homepage redesigns.

Retina · Sarasota and Venice
Shane Retina and Venice Retina
Dr. Thomas Shane and Dr. Anita Shane each founded an independent retina practice, and both trained at Bascom Palmer, ranked the top ophthalmology program in the country. I’ve done their SEO continuously since 2019. The Shane Retina offices sit in the top three on the Google map almost everywhere, and the sites have been rebuilt page by page.

The group is physician-owned, has served Southwest Florida for more than fifty years and is the exclusive radiology provider for Lee Health. I rebuilt the site to recruit radiologists and win partners. It carries a job board, a page for every physician and more than 70 annotated procedure graphics.

“Josh brought innovative ideas while understanding what we needed as a pharmacy and how the site would serve our audience. The process was seamless. We could easily track progress, and edits and updates were handled promptly. That responsiveness has been just as valuable over the years as it was during the original project. For any business owner considering Josh, I would recommend him wholeheartedly. He combines a creative mind with an organized, efficient process and dependable ongoing support. Years later, I’m still proud of what we built together.”

Websites built to last
Designed with the long view in mind.
A practice changes over the years. It adds providers, services and offices, and the website has to keep up. So I plan a site for how it will be used and added to years from now, as well as for the day it launches.
The structure leaves room for new pages, and the design holds together as the site grows. SEO is part of the plan from the first page, so the site keeps bringing in new patients year after year.

Medical Specialties
Each specialty needs a website built for the people who choose it.
Each specialty I work in has taught me something different about what its website has to do.
Dermatology
Credentials rarely tip the scales. Patients book when the photos, the words and the reviews all give them confidence.
Ophthalmology
Patients are often older, so large type and simple menus come first. Adult children or caregivers often search too.
Med Spas
Clients can’t judge an injector’s skill directly, so they judge the photos, the results and how carefully the site is made.
Radiology
Most patients are referred, so the site has to win over referring doctors, partners and radiologists looking for work.
Functional Medicine
Patients choose the approach as much as the doctor, so the site has to convey the philosophy and values behind the care.
Healthcare
I’ve worked across healthcare since 2014, and what I learn in one specialty often helps the next practice I work with.
“Seven years later, Josh continues to be just as responsive, reliable, and attentive to our evolving needs as he was at the beginning. I’ve since referred him to at least three other large medical practices, all of whom have been equally thrilled with his work and have developed the same long-standing relationship with him that we have enjoyed. That, to me, is the strongest testament to the quality of his work and the trust he earns from his clients. I recommend him without hesitation.”
Dr. Anita Shane · Ophthalmologist & Founder, Venice Retina
“Good design is a thousand considered choices disappearing into something that just feels right.”

Who I work best with
Practices that are already good at what they do.
Most of my clients are established practices with a strong reputation, who want their website to reflect it.
01
Your practice is doing well, and you want a site that shows it.
02
You value clarity, quality and long-term thinking.
03
You want one person who sees the whole picture.
04
You want fewer decisions, with the details handled for you.
05
You want it built properly and a partner for years.
A few common questions
How this works, in plain terms.
The questions I hear most from practice owners and office managers. If yours isn’t here, ask it on the contact page.
What is it like to work together?
The work is designed to be calm, structured and efficient. I handle the details and bring you in when a decision matters, so your time is used carefully. Many clients tell me the process clarified how their practice works and what matters most.
You work directly with me. I’m responsive and present throughout the project, and most clients are surprised by how simple the experience feels. The process page walks through every step.
How involved do I need to be?
You’ll be involved at the moments that matter, and you won’t be buried in meetings or busywork. The heavy thinking happens up front on my end, so the big decisions get made early and once. Discovery happens in writing, at your own pace, and during the build we meet by video on a regular schedule.
It’s also my job to guide the process and communicate clearly. I explain things in plain terms, bring you one decision at a time with my recommendation, and manage the details so you always know what’s happening and what I need from you. How I work has more.
Do you write the content, or do I?
I can write every word of your website, and if you’d rather not write anything, you don’t have to. When you’re open to it, I like to work on it together, because what you know about your patients and your care makes the writing stronger. A few bullet points or topics are enough. Either way, I write in a voice that fits your practice, and you review everything before it goes live.
What does a website cost?
Every project is scoped to the practice, so I don’t publish prices. We talk budget openly on our first call, so you know early whether we’re in the same range, and the written plan that follows includes the scope of the work and an estimated budget. A website done right pays for itself in new patients. Dr. Thomas Shane of Shane Retina put it this way: “his value far exceeds the cost of his services.”
How long does it take?
Most projects take two to three months from start to launch, depending on the size of the site and how quickly feedback comes back. You’ll have a clear timeline before we begin. The heavy thinking happens first, in discovery and planning, and then the build moves steadily because the important decisions are already made.
Do you only work with medical practices?
Most of my work is with medical practices, and that focus is on purpose. My clients are independent practices in dermatology, ophthalmology and retina, med spas, radiology, functional medicine and pharmacy, and I’ve also worked in other areas of healthcare. Working in one field means I already know how patients choose a practice and what the website has to do for it, and what works in one specialty often helps in another. Outside healthcare, I take on other kinds of businesses when the project and the relationship are a good fit.
What if I already have a website and just want SEO?
That’s a good place to start, and many clients come to me that way. First I look at how the site is built, how it’s organized and how it’s performing. If the foundation supports the results you want, we move ahead with SEO on the site you have. If something is in the way, I’ll tell you what it is and what to fix first. Sometimes that is a redesign, and a careful one keeps the rankings the site has already earned.
What happens after the website launches?
I stay on. The care plan keeps the site hosted, updated, backed up and secure, the same way your phone needs its updates. New pages, SEO and anything else the practice needs come on top of that, covered by a retainer or billed hourly as it comes up. You send a request, and I make the change myself.
Some of the first websites I ever built belong to clients I still look after. More on ongoing support.
Who owns the website?
You do. The domain is registered in your practice’s name, and the website, its content and its logins belong to you. If you ever decide to move it, I give you what you need to take it with you.
Do you work with my competitors?
No. I won’t take on a practice that competes with one of my clients for the same patients in the same area. If you’re my client, I’m on your side, and I want you to win. I do work with practices in the same specialty in other parts of the country, but never two competing in the same market.
Where do you work?
Anywhere in the United States. I’m in Denver, Colorado, and my clients are in Florida, Ohio and other states. Discovery happens in writing and we meet by video on a regular schedule, so where your practice is doesn’t change how the work goes. For local search, I check how each of your offices shows up on the Google map for the searches its patients make.
How do we get started?
It starts with the contact form. Tell me what your practice does best and who you want to reach. A few sentences is plenty. If it looks like a good fit, the next step is a short call, twenty to thirty minutes, to get to know each other and see whether we’re the right match. From there, every step to launch is laid out on the process page.
