Website Support for the Long Game

Most web projects have a clear ending. The site goes live, the designer moves on, and you’re left to figure out the rest.

That pattern is common, and it’s frustrating for a business owner. Every time you need something, you have to find someone new and explain your business all over again.

My approach is different by design. The goal from the beginning is a relationship that makes your life easier over time: ongoing website support and maintenance from someone reliable, already familiar with your business, who understands what you’re trying to do and can move quickly because nothing needs to be re-explained.

This is less about maintaining a website and more about having someone in your corner who understands how it all fits together and is ready to move when you are.

Ten of my current client relationships and the year each one started. The oldest began in 2014, and every one of them still works with me.

You hand it off. It gets handled.

You send a message. Something needs to be updated, added, or fixed. An idea comes up. A page needs to change. Something isn’t working the way it should.

It gets handled.

The context is already there. Most clients know what they want changed but not how to do it, and that’s all I need. I take it from there, make the decisions that need to be made, and move things forward.

You can be as involved as you want. Most clients find the most value in not having to think about it. Some want to run their own site, and I build it so they can. Medrock Pharmacy’s own team runs its site today, and I am on call for the heavy lifting.

Four requests clients sent after their websites launched, and the pages they became.

“He is exceptionally responsive, often answering communications immediately and completing requested changes remarkably quickly. He provides clear, regular updates about what he has accomplished, what he is monitoring, and what he plans to improve next. He welcomes feedback, incorporates our suggestions promptly, and is consistently professional, intelligent, and easy to work with. We trust him completely, which allows us to give him the access and autonomy necessary to manage our online presence efficiently.”

Website Maintenance and Whatever Else Your Site Needs

The way I work with clients long term is closer to full website management than to a maintenance contract: someone on call for anything you need that touches your website or online presence.

The care plan covers the maintenance: hosting, security, and backups, and keeping the software current. Beyond that, I handle whatever else comes up, from new pages and added functionality to ongoing SEO and content, landing pages, ads, and working alongside your other vendors so everything stays connected. That work is covered by a retainer or billed hourly as it comes up.

Sometimes this includes pages Google never sees: new patient forms, visit instructions, and staff training with quizzes.

Most clients don’t need all of it all the time. But when something comes up, it’s done by someone who already understands the full picture.

Two Ways to Work Together: Care Plan or Retainer

The Website Care Plan

The foundation. A website maintenance plan with a simple monthly base that covers hosting, security, backups, and keeping the site’s software current. The site stays safe and running properly, without you thinking about it.

The Monthly Retainer

Where sites stop being maintained and start getting better. Ongoing website optimization: a set amount of dedicated work each month, applied wherever it will move your business most: SEO and content, local visibility, page improvements, new sections, refinements based on how the site is actually being used.

The care plan protects what you built. The retainer grows it, and it’s the choice for a business that wants its site to keep getting better. Month by month the site gets more complete, more visible, and more effective.

Beyond both, one-off work is always available as it comes up. You only pay for what you need.

“Well-being is attained little by little, and nevertheless is no little thing itself.”

– Zeno of Citium

What Ongoing Website Support Looks Like

A few of the clients I support and the different kinds of ongoing website support they get, from a monthly SEO program to a site that changes every time a practice grows.

Shane Retina and Venice Retina

Working together since 2019

Two retina practices on Florida’s Gulf Coast, his and hers. The SEO work has been continuous: content rewritten, doctor pages and location pages built as the practice grew, a comprehensive knowledge graph built and kept current, and a plain-language update every month. Dr. Thomas Shane was the only doctor, in one office, when the search work began. Seven providers now see patients in three offices between the two practices. Most new patients search for what they need, like “retina specialist near me,” not for a practice’s name. Website clicks from those searches on the practices’ Google listings are up 145 percent over two summers.

Arsenault Dermatology

Working together since 2020

Arsenault Dermatology is one of the Gulf Coast’s best-regarded dermatology groups. I’m the go-to for all things web there, from the website and SEO to the Google Business Profiles, and even their print ads. New offices get pages, new providers get profiles, and the person who reads the request is the person who makes the change. The practice has grown from three offices to seven, more than 25 providers have been added to the site, and 1,000+ requests have been handled since 2020.

Providers get added, and the ones who move on come off. New service pages get built. A job board went up with the careers section. When a service changes, the site changes. Maintenance runs underneath all of it. 35 radiologists and physician assistants have joined the group since 2024, and a new doctor’s profile page usually goes up the same day or the next.

Arsenault Aesthetics

Working together since 2021

The whole site, managed, with a team that works well together. Melissa Beachy brings the clinical expertise and the ideas, the practice’s designer makes the monthly specials, and I build them into the site. New services get pages. Seasonal specials go up for the holidays, and there is a Black Friday event every year. Online bookings ran 43 percent higher in the last tracked year than in the first.

Skin Health Forever and Love and Beauty Maui

Working together since 2022 and 2023

Two sites built with SEO in them from the start, and kept up as each business grows. When Skin Health Forever asked in 2026 for its cosmetic services to have a bigger place on the site, new Microneedling, Facials and Chemical Peels pages were live four days later. When Nikki Quinn at Love and Beauty Maui sends a request, it is usually done the same day.

“Another thing I absolutely appreciate about Josh is how responsive he is. With my previous website designer, I’d sometimes wait weeks just to get a response or have changes made. Josh has literally completed updates for me the same day I’ve requested them! As a business owner, that kind of service is invaluable.”

Nikki Quinn · Lead Stylist and Owner, Love and Beauty Maui

Long-term website support gets better with time

The longer we work together, the less needs to be explained. I already know your business, how you operate, and what matters to you.

That context builds over time, and it changes the quality of the work. Decisions get better because they’re made with a full understanding of how everything fits together.

Some of the first websites I ever built belong to clients I still serve today. That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when the relationship is working the way it should. Since 2020, that has added up to 2,600+ client requests handled.

Optimal Health Institute of Ohio. The site was built in 2016 and is still how patients find the practice. It shows up for 1,000+ different Google searches, and on Google’s first page for about three times as many searches as in its first full year. Read the case study →

A quick conversation

Looking for someone to hand things to? Start with a conversation.

“He remained steady and calm even as things were falling apart all around us as we tried to fix a large professional website that had basically, imploded. I bet he doesn’t want you to know that he sat on the phone with me for hours, sometimes into the night, as we worked on the site together. This work went on for months on end. Josh is a rare find.”

Common questions

What people ask about ongoing support.

Hosting, security updates, backups, and routine WordPress maintenance that keeps the site’s software current. It’s the foundation that keeps everything running reliably.

Dedicated time each month, spent wherever it does the most good. Some months that’s SEO and content. Some months it’s page improvements or something new. We set the priorities together, and I handle the rest. It’s the simplest way to keep the site improving without managing a project.

It depends on the size of the site, what condition it is in, and how much you want beyond keeping it running. The care plan is a modest monthly amount, and the retainer adds a set amount of dedicated work each month. I do not put prices on the site. Pricing comes after we have talked about your site and what you need.

Just send a message. Email works, or whatever channel makes sense. No formal process, no lengthy briefs. You describe what you need and I take it from there.

Most requests are answered within a day, and urgent issues come first. The goal is that things don’t sit.

The care plan and retainer are simple monthly amounts. Anything beyond them is billed hourly as it comes up. We’ll talk through the details in our first conversation.

Yes. Ongoing clients get priority for larger projects. If you want a new section, a full page, or something more involved, we scope it out and move forward. Larger projects follow the same steps as any new project, and the process page lays them out.

Yes. If you have a Google Ads team, a marketing agency, or anyone else in the mix, I can work alongside them. Having one person who understands the full picture usually makes coordination easier.

Yes. I’ll start by getting familiar with how it’s set up, and from there I can handle updates, improvements, or ongoing support the same way I would with any other site. There is more on taking over a site somebody else built on the WordPress maintenance page.

“The relationship did not end when the website launched. Over the years, whenever we have needed additions, adjustments, updates, or follow-up assistance, Josh has continued to be pleasant, responsive, and timely. We have appreciated having someone we can reach back out to who already understands our business and our brand.”
